High summer

A quick post vet walk at Pitfour this morning - by the canal there was bright yellow mimulus, buttercups and spearwort and beyond them   where a statuesque heron waited beneath the alders bog bean and the spears of flag iris. In the wood there were masses of enchanter's nightshade, pink purslane and wood avens, here and there were stands of foxgloves and the occasional clump of yellow loosestrife. I was startled by a roe deer suddenly bounding through the trees and rather saddened that my old, almost blind and deaf dog failed to notice it.
