Life through the lens...

By ValC

Flower Friday.

The last day of June! How time flies.
The day started well although not much sunshine.
We decided on one of our favourite walks along the river from Boroughbridge to Aldborough. A lovely walk through cornfields down to the river and back.
The barley is golden but the wheat is still green. I hadn’t realised it ripened earlier.
So peaceful with the birds singing as we walked along.
We passed a couple of dog walkers who were listening to the cricket as they walked. MrC couldn’t resist asking what the score was. On hearing it he wished he hadn’t bothered!

We arrived back in Aldborough to have lunch at the pub, ( The Ship) only to find it had closed down. Notice board wanting a new landlord.
Such a shame as again it was a favourite of ours. We had a lovely lunch there last year.

Decided to drive to the nearby village of Roecliff only to find that pub closed too.
So continued along the narrow winding lanes to Burton Leonard where at last we found a pub open. The Royal Oak. A very warm welcome by the landlord.
Had some excellent burgers and chips.

We did enjoy the drive through some lovely villages, and decided to stop at Staveley Nature Reserve on the way back.
At this time of year it is full of dozens of different varieties of wild flowers, as well as the lagoons. Not a lot of bird life but plenty of butterflies.
My Blip photo is one of the Common spotted orchids.

Halfway round it started raining and so we decided to call it a day and headed back to the car. I found my showerproof coat wasn’t!

Again many thanks for all your kind comments stars and hearts for yesterday.
Still a day behind.
