Just Joey

This rose has been here for over thirty years and it never disappoints—sometimes the flowers are as big as a child’s head.

It’s the 4th of July—there were a couple of parades, but we stayed home, not wanting to deal with crowds and traffic. There are no legal fireworks displays in the area, and it remains to be seen how much is set off illegally once it gets dark. We celebrated with a barbecue with the neighbors—burgers, potato salad, coleslaw, grilled vegetables, baked beans, and brownies for dessert. It was too windy to eat outside though, so we sat inside and didn’t have to bundle up to have a meal. My son thought it was hilarious that four of us split a bottle of beer. “But it’s a big one,” said Mr S. “A forty?” “No. It’s sixteen ounces…”  You do the math. It was plenty, and very good.
