Reindeer Glacier, Kangerlussuaq Greenland

A VERY long day!  We had to vacate our cabin by 8:00 a.m. so the butler and steward could get it cleaned and ready for new passengers arriving this afternoon.  We then hung around in the public areas of the ship until we were called to disembark at 2:30 p.m.

Disembarkation was interesting to say the least -- it was done by Zodiac as there is no dock in Kangerlussuaq.  This meant that we had to clamber aboard with our carry on luggage, camera bag, computer bag, etc.  and to make things even more interesting, it was pouring rain!!!

Once we made it to shore, we boarded a bus and were taken on a four hour tour out to Reindeer Glacier, where the Polar Ice Cap can be seen.  Even in the rain and howling wind it was beautiful and awe-inspiring. Standing on that rock, clutching Mr. W's phone, I really had to struggle not to be blown over!  The extra shows the glacier pushing a stony moraine forward ahead of its gradual advance towards the sea.

After the tour, we boarded a charter flight to New York, and were then herded onto another bus which took us to the Intercontinental Hotel in Times Square for the night.  We didn't arrive there until 11:30 p.m. and none of us were amused to be told we had to unload all our luggage from the bottom of the bus ourselves as there weren't any porters available!  You can just imagine the rugger scrum ... not nice at all!

We fell into bed after midnight, and I don't even remember my head hitting the pillow.  Tomorrow we will board a train to Boston, arriving home just in time for tea!
