On the walk from Dirleton to North Berwick along the coast we noticed several large horse transporters parked at Yellowcraigs.  Then as we started down to the beach we were met by many riders and their horses and realised that they were part of the Household Cavalry.  Unfortunately we were too late to see the horses running along the sands and swimming in the sea and enjoying their freedom.  Someone told us that two riders fell in the water which is probably the reason why many of the soldiers were wearing shorts.   After the intense pressure that had been on them on Wednesday, when they had to parade from the castle and stand outside St Giles for a very long time before parading back, they must have been exhilarated by the freedom on the beach.   After a snack of hay they had the tops of their tails taped and protective wraps round their legs which is advisable if they are in a confined space like the horse transporter.
If anyone is interested to see the horses on the beach, the other section of the Household Cavalry will be at Yellowcraigs early on Sunday morning.
