Day 23 - Champagne Country

This morning we left Paris and travelled to Reims where we discovered an annual medieaval festival was in full swing within the grounds of the Rheims Cathedral.
The Rheims Cathedral is early Gothic; a notice inside the building highlights that throughout the church's fifteen centuries it has been a refuge for poor and princes alike. The church displays the marks of this long history including significant bombing in WW I, the removal and replacement of it's beautiful windows at the time of WW II and today is being impacted by climate and polution.
I decided not to blip either of the above but to go with the champagne. We had a tour of Mercier and whilst the French are protective about their champagne we noticed it is made exactly the same as cava in Spain where we previously visited.
