Wearing purple...

No mist over Pendle...

...and this was Roy at the "Big End" trig point this morning...

Set off early and parked at Barley - couldn't believe the size of the car park after the tiny roads we'd navigated to get there!

A walk along the res before circling back towards "the steps" to reach the summit. At this point marital harmony may have been in danger, as Roy had the water bottle, but it was empty... Saved by "The Cauldron" a little kiosk with coffees, soft drinks, chilled water and ice-cream ;)

Lots of witchy references as Pendle was at the centre of the Lancashire witch trials - and 10 of them were hanged at Lancaster Castle in 1612!

Pendle is 169ft short of being a mountain - but it was a fine hill to climb today. A complete contrast to our walk on Thursday where we hardly saw anyone - today there was a steady stream of people enjoying the walk and the views. The view beyond Roy takes in Longridge Fell, Nicky Nook, and Parlick and Fairsnape. The extras show an overgrown path we didn't take, and both of us at the top ;)

Lovely to see families introducing children to the great outdoors, and overhearing snippets of conversation between the youngsters like :
"What's your favourite hill?"
and
"We'll finish the walk and go to the pub - we always go to the pub after a walk!"

A slightly less steep return to the valley - only 5 miles today before we had a snack in Barley village and headed home. A lovely end to a few days away!
