Painswick.

We decided to head out to the Cotswold village of Painswick this morning. It’s only 35 miles away from us, but we have never visited it before.

My word, what a place!

So much to see… from the 99 yew trees in the churchyard, to the church itself, then there is the most gorgeous buildings, but for me, the highlight of the trip was a visit to the Ashton Beer museum. (Quite by accident as we were passing and thought it looked interesting).

This is a private museum, owned and run by a chap called John Ashton Beer. He gave us a guided tour and explained the provenance of many of the museum quality artefacts that were crammed into this disused church. He took us up some rickety stairs and opened a door- see extra!! I have never seen so many chairs! He explained about the stained glass window- he described it as “buying a window and getting a church thrown in”…. Such is the quality of the window.

So many things that we didn’t see- we will have to return…

I wish I had looked at this before we went….
