The Pommie Plaque

We moved down to another campsite, this time in the limestone or "White Peak" area, at Youlgreave. Walked along the River Bradford and up into the village, where a colourful design on a wall of the village hall caught my eye. Not another well dressing, but a design made from thousands of tiny ceramic tiles, each with an inscription, picture or pattern. We were last here 2 years ago and it definitely wasn't! Apparently it's been in the design and production stage for several years and was only completed and mounted earlier this year. The inscriptions and pictures all relate to the history of Youlgreave and its two adjacent villages, Alport and Middleton. Many of the inscriptions were pressed into the tiles by local children, then professionally glazed and fired. Finances have come from local businesses and from a "sponsor a tile" scheme. The whole thing is very impressive - I've included a close-up as an extra.

I was hoping to see dippers along the river but no luck, though I did spot a grey wagtail (see extra).
