St Andrews Castle

As you can see the castle, which sits on a rocky promontory overlooking a small beach called Castle Sands, is a ruin.
There has been a castle on the site since the 12th century.

The castle’s grounds are now maintained by Historic Environment Scotland. In the visitors’ centre there is a wonderful display charting the history of St Andrews with many life sized tableaus.
