In Protection

Warm in temperature +23, but quite cold wind. Firts sunny, later cloudy, few raindrops.

We went to Korkeasaari Zoo in Helsinki, where we haven't been in two years. We went there by taxi and came back home, about 7 km, by mopeds . We like to go and see the animals there, although it's very sad that they are captive. However the reason for that and work for the species is immensely important. We stayed there for a few hours, but most of the animals were hidden from people. Maybe because there are quite many visitors in summer and it's also been quite warm last days.

In the picture you see a chick and an adult of a snowy owl in the zoo. The face of the chick can't make you nothing but smiling, can it.

In July 2021, the EEP conservation program run by the European Zoo Organization was established for the snowy owl, which is managed by Korkeasaari Zoo.

The snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) breeds in a wide area in the northern tundra zone in Europe, Asia, North America and Greenland. In Europe, the snowy owl breeds only in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and occasionally in Scotland. The snowy owl was uplisted in 2017 to being a vulnerable species. The number of snowy owls living in Scandinavia has decreased and it is classified as extremely endangered in Finland.

There's much to do for the animals too in the world.
