Chicory

Our final day at Boothby Wildland in 2023 - and thankfully it was a lot less tiring than yesterday. An early start meant that we'd finished by just after 2, when the temperature had already reached 26C.

Some part of the site had previously been planted with wildflowers, with  Chicory, Common Knapweed and Wild Carrot doing well. I love Chicory's delicate shade of blue, but I'd never really noticed how beautiful the anthers are before today!

In the evening I went for a dusk walk along the Maxey Cut and watched the sun setting over the bleachy wheat fields. The air was warm and full of the scent of ripening grain...
