A moment in time

Culross (pronounced Cooroos in the Scots dialect)

We had a good day weatherwise today, with the threat of rain that never came!

We had not been to Culross for a number of years and always find it an interesting wee place, and only 40 minutes by car from home, so we headed over there today.  I took many photos as you can see.  Bob did a small walk along to the school and back and then sat in the sun waiting for me.  The village has been used for filming of some of 'Outlander' as it is the setting for Cranesmuir in the series.

Culross is Scotland's most complete example of a burgh of the 17th and 18th centuries. White-harled houses with red-tiled roofs line the steep cobbled streets .

I walked all the way up to the Abbey, up the cobbled street which is very difficult to walk on, and had a walk around the abbey ruins, and also visited the Church of Scotland there.  Coming down was a bit hazardous on the cobbles, but I made it along with others.

The cottages in the village are very interesting, and I was quite taken with the doorways, and in particular with the door knockers.  I photographed quite a few and have made a collage in extras, also one of the Abbey and church.

The mustard building in my main collage is Culross Palace, and this is the colour that it was originally.  It is an interesting visit, but we have done it several times and stayed outside today.

Met up with Bob again and we had an ice cream before heading back to the car and home.  We had a M&S Takeaway Chinese meal for dinner, first time we have had it and we really enjoyed it!
