Sun Dogs over Issaquah, WA

After practice this evening, we were treated to a pair of parhelia or "Sun Dogs" around the setting sun.

Sun Dogs will appear at a 22° angle from the sun and at the same distance above the horizon as the sun. They typically occur when hexagonal shaped ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere act as a prism and refract the light to form a partial halo.

While it's fairly straightforward to capture an image during this atmospheric phenomena, I used the Canon EOS 5D Mark III's HDR function to broaden the overall dynamic range.
