"On The Antarctic Plateau"....

...Now that our Winter is here in the Southern hemisphere - I thought I'd put on a few interesting shots of John when he was in the Antarctic some years ago..

...I didn't dare put any Antarctic shots on here during the monstrous Winter some of our Northern blipping friends suffered...and so here is one of John, aged 37 at the time, whilst he was working at Casey Base, Antarctica..and out doing the re-supply tours for fuel etc., on the traverse lines..

...This shot shows him about 100klms from the Station - with the vehicles and other workers in the background. What is he doing? It's his turn to hold up the Communication aerial which was telescopic, and could be altered to suit, so that communicators there could get a clear signal..back to the Base..

...The other vehicles in the background are part of the Traverse Train - the Workshop, the Generator Van, and Accommodation Van, as well as Food Stores..and behind is a Search and Rescue vehicle...

... Seems like the dark old ages now - they certainly wouldn't do things quite like this ..things would be much different..

...Life was very different in the Antarctic then...
