…of the meadows and hills near our home. Admittedly it took more than 15 years of living here to realise the orioles are spending their summers in the region. Having internalised their characteristic melodic calls, they are heard quite frequently. (It’s a bit like in classical music, once you have learned what is typical for a certain composer you will quickly recognise their pieces. And like the orioles, you never see the composer in person!) Today M. has discovered the hoopoos too, and we shared a pair of binoculars, M. ,F., and me. A few days ago we had wondered who called like „hu-hu-hu“ again and again—now we know. But no chance to photograph them with a mobile more than 200 yards away, hence the stamps (from the collection of my youth).
