Regatta

We had an easy morning, before taking the bus to Miðvágur. As a skiff rower, I was really interesting in seeing a Regatta. Rowing is the national sport in the Faroes and racing takes place throughout the summer, culminating in the finals on the Faroese national day of Ólavsøka - 29 July. Their boats are different from ours in several ways - there are more people in each crew and there are two rowers side-by-side - but essentially, it is the same kind of thing.

The course was on 950m of fjord after the breakwater. We saw the end of the junior racing, and all of the adult races They had a big screen to follow some if the action which was out of sight. It was also a great opportunity to attend a social event and for people watching!

The final race had the biggest boats: 10-oared, men - only three boats took part. The winners (from Klaksvik), raised their boat and cox in triumph.
