Cinderella Story

This lovely building was once a firehouse, basically a garage, and was converted into a beautiful library. The windows are where the truck bays were, and the siren on the roof is a tribute to the building’s former life.

The first extra is a peek inside. The new library was the brainchild of the head librarian (l.). She has been the only librarian I can remember, and I have been a member for about 40 years. She has shepherded patrons through card catalogs and due date stamps, to computer catalogs, self checkouts and e-books.

She has been through four iterations of this library. The first was a very small ex-classroom, then a temporary move into this building while it was a rustic abandoned firehouse, then into the renovated, slightly expanded original library.
She saw the potential of this building and spearheaded the multi-year fundraising drive required to convert the firehall. The result has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

For hundreds of children, many of them Canadian, she has fostered a love of reading through her innovative ‘summer reading’ programs. Many return as adults for their ‘beach reads’. She is the constant librarian, and we are her constant patrons. We are very fortunate to have her, and this building; her legacy.

The library is part a county system, so if a book is not locally available, it can be requested from another branch and it will be delivered as soon as it is available.

The second extra is a lawn sign supporting the local system.
