Big Wheel

A trip to Eastbourne with Mrs Catspaw today, where we paid due homage to 20th century British arts at the Barbara Hepworth exhibition at the Towner before heading down to the sea front, where we came across the Eastbourne Giant Wheel - 'the UK's largest transportable ferris wheel' no less - next to what I still think of as the Wish Tower Cafe. Declining the pleasures offered by this  'state of the art observation wheel', we strolled along the sea front and enjoyed vegan raspberry Magnum ice creams at the Holywell Cafe before heading back to the car.

Our route took us through Gildredge Park and the Manor Gardens, where (amongst other insect delights) we enjoyed the sight of three Bumblebees with distinctive black and white striped abdomens on a patch of Marjoram in the formal gardens, one of which features in today's 'Extra'. We think they must have been Vestal Cuckoo Bees (Bombus vestalis).
