Marking Time

"Get me to the church on time..."

Well, we had some excitement this morning when
two Americans arrive to renew their wedding vows at Lecropt church where we hold our weekly dance class in the adjoining hall.

They are stressed out.  They arrive with big suitcases. What on earth? They are on a very tight schedule. They are due in the Highlands this afternoon.
But they are about to become even more stressed .

Well, we know our local church, built in 1825, is attractive but with the whole of Scotland to pick from it does seem an odd choice.

They want to change into their wedding finery and they have been told they could use the cathedral hall so they are surprised to be shown into two small side rooms.  Yes they know everything is smaller in the UK but they had no idea rooms were that small.

Well the groom emerges from one room in a kilt and full Highland regalia.
And the bride comes out of the other room wearing a strapless black and red taffeta dress.

We are impressed. We have never seen such finery in our modest building.

But there is no minister. And no key to the church.
And the photographer hired to record the event fidgets.

Time passes.  Who is in charge? They want to know. Well not us, we say, we just hire the hall for the morning.
Anyway, someone whispers, the church doesn’t have a minister…they rely on a relief.

At this point a member of the Macrobert arts centre staff arrives to lock up the hall.
So we leave her with hyper stressed out Americans and a challenging situation.

Nearly two hours later, we learn, the minister from Dunblane cathedral arrives and recues them.

They had gone to the wrong church.
