Little beauty

This is a miniature lilac, and in this abundant year it is a mass of blooms. Although the shrub and the flowers are miniature there is nothing small scale about the perfume which is very strong.

I long to cut a few sprigs of this to bring indoors but I am held back by my mother's superstition that it is unlucky to bring lilac into the house. So I have to be content with enjoying it outside and breathing in the beautiful scent whenever I pass.
