Speaking Scots

Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

One of my colleagues, Frank, moved back to his hometown, Leeds, after lockdown. He has two babies (Irish twins) and joked today that he’s glad they’ll be growing up in England as he couldn’t cope with “Oi Da, where’s mi skittles ya wee jobby”.

Me: “Yep that’s how all Scottish kids speak. Still, better than calling you a ‘boaby’”

Frank: “What’s a ‘boaby’? Is that Scottish slang”

Thankfully he googled that on his phone and not from work!

I told him about an English guy we used to work with. His girlfriend’s name was Roberta but was called ‘Bobby’. Every time he spoke about her, Doddsy used to say it was nice to hear how much he loved ‘Boaby’. He had absolutely no idea! Used to crack us all up!
