Limp

The sunflowers are showing the effect of the heat. I changed the water yesterday, , and they still have plenty, but today they have succumbed to 100+ degree temperatures. There is nothing outside that looks much better, and I’m not too inclined to go out there now anyway.

It was reasonably cool this morning when we looked out and saw a big ottoman shaped box on the front porch. It must have been delivered last night when we were glued to the television watching the Tour de France. I think we’re a day behind, because this was Stage 17, a long hot day in the Alps when poor Pogachar came unglued and instead of a sprint finish up a hill against Vingegaard, he limped in after losing almost 7 minutes to him. Sad to see.

All we had to do with the ottoman was screw on four legs. It came, inexplicably, with six and the instructions to ‘save (the extras) for another use’…what? A two legged stool? The bottom of a ladder? We are actually going to cut a couple of inches off the legs so the extras might come in quite handy for practice. We definitely want to avoid the classic situation of trying to even out the legs until there are none left.
I’m putting a picture if it in extras.*

I’m grateful that it does cool off quite a bit at night, allowing up to sleep comfortably (with the bedroom door wide open) and have a little time in the morning to walk the dog, water the plants or whatever needs to be done outside. For us, it was to meet with the usual suspects in the garden at Cafe Frida. Bob is planning a group outing to see Oppenheimer. I think we’ll pass on the Barbie movie although it’s being billed as ‘thought provoking’ . The two movies are going head to head at the box office, both being released today.

The extreme heat warning, or whatever they are calling the obvious, is set to expire at 11 o’clock tonight, so it should be cooling off tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m about to go fire up the air conditioning before the neighbors come for drinks and a charcuterie  board which we hope will suffice for dinner as it’s too hot to cook.

*Looks like I'm not. Perhaps because I'm doing it after the fact, I can't add it. I'll do it tomorrow.
