Spoilt for choice!

I think this is my 400th Blip, although I have been here since 2021 so it's taken me a while to get there!

Last Monday began with a trip to the emergency dentist (expensive of course, and not sure it has been entirely successful, although the team were very friendly and professional). After that, a gentle wander around Burrow Farm Gardens was ideal as basked in unexpected sunshine and just the gentlest of showers. There were many benches and covered areas in the different informal garden areas, as well as a cafe for our lunch.

After that, we popped into the old Loughwood Meeting House, one of the oldest Baptist churches in the country. "The first known record of the chapel is in 1653 when a Baptist parish from nearby Kilmington sought an isolated place to worship. Attending a service was risky and guards were often stationed outside to warn of approaching soldiers. Tales recount how the congregation arrived one morning to find an armed soldier at the door, with orders to attack the first person attempting to enter." It is amazing to think how my Baptist forebears had to struggle to worship outside of the state religion.

As we continued our journey home we happened across this abandoned station and station hotel (main) and even hubby wanted to stop to explore. It turns out to be the former Seaton Junction station, eventually closed after  the branch line to Seaton was shut under Beeching.

In the evening, we walked along to Axmouth bridge which is the oldest surviving concrete bridge in Britain along with its toll house which is the oldest surviving concrete house in Britain.

I think the old station and house are good contenders for Derelict Sunday;; thank you Marlieske
