The bottom drawer

This beautiful rug was crocheted by Margaret, Ray's Mum for her daughters 'bottom drawer'.  A bottom drawer in those days was where a young woman would store valuables, especially linen in preparation for her marriage.  Ray married Ian more than 60 years ago, and it's never been used, always kept for 'best'.

I loved it instantly.

When we visited Martin's parents this weekend it was in a pile destined for the charity shop.  So, despite being allowed only a handbag sized amount of luggage on the flight to Scotland I was determined to fit this precious work of art and family history in my bag.
