Heilhornet

We went to Leka today as it is designated as Norway’s Geological National Monument. The reason for this is that you can see the contact between the Crust and the Upper mantle. The crustal rocks are Peridotite which is a coarse grained orange rock and the mantle rocks are Dunite a finer grained orange rock and the ‘join’ is the Moho (Mohorovičić discontinuity). We went on a walk to see this and the terrain can be seen in the extra (bottom left and middle top) The rest of the extra is of other parts of the island. My blip is of a burial cairn at Skeisnesset on the north east of the island looking towards Heilhornet on the mainland; a magnificent hill.

Best on black.

Today’s entry on the Abstract Fiesta journal is a Raised Beach.
