I could not see the mountain from New Plymouth as it was obscured by cloud. I drove south and found this view. It didn't last long and a few minutes later was covered in cloud as well. The secondary cone on the left is Fanthams peak, which can be seen from everywhere except the north side. The mountain is dormant and overdue for an eruption. Sulphur can be smelt near the summit.
