Lonely Sentinel

This once lovely old farmhouse sits high atop a cliff overlooking a panoramic view of the entire.gulf. See extra #1

It also acted as a landmark for all of the vessels plying the gulf. See extra #2. In pre-sonar days it was particularly important to commercial fishermen as there is a 5 kilometer long, shallow, rocky reef, off to the right, that was a serious threat to their equipment, and thus their livelihood.

The house is also an enigma, completely inaccessible to the public. To the left was once a large farm. To right was is grove of trees. To the rear is a long, gated driveway through a dense grove. This view has only been possible because the farm beside it was recently sold and subdivided into lots.

The reason for its demise is a mystery. Most likely the farm was no longer viable and the heirs had, long ago, moved away to pursue an education and/or a career.
