Ferryhill Railway Turntable

We’d a walk at Duthie this afternoon with A&L and the kids. It was a lovely sunny and humid day. When the kids were displaying their “scootering” skills I watched some grade cricket before we walked round to the Ferryhill Railway Heritage Centre which is based at the former Motive Power Depot. On the site there is a restored Ransomes and Rapier Locomotive Turntable and an 1850's Engine Shed. We were lucky enough to have timed our visit to watch a steam locomotive being turned before a large crowd. No power was needed - the turntable was operated by about 5 men pushing the train round.
