Remembering Yolande and Theo

In October 2009, Yolande was just four years old, and had recently started in the reception class at the school where I work. She had her whole life in front of her until she and her two-year-old brother Theo were murdered by their father. Our whole school community were devastated, and it took us a long time to come to terms with what had happened.

During the memorial service we held for them we planted an apple tree, it was just a twig of a thing really but it's really big now and as I passed it I stopped a while to think and remember Yolande and Theo. Each September, when we return to school after the summer holidays, the cook uses the apples to make apple pie for us all to share. As you can see from my photo the apples are already a good size.

We will always remember Yolande and Theo.
