This is Yarrow

It was so nice to wake up to sunshine this morning - at last. And it stayed fine and bright for our visit to Plumgarths, near Kendal. What an excellent morning it was too.

Although we have been in Cumbria Wildlife Trust for over 20 years, we have not regularly gone to meetings etc, but we do like to think we are supporting their work. Neither have we been before to Plumgarths, the head office.

However, today we went there for an information session - Gardening for Wildlife. We were given a brief introductory talk and then we wandered the wonderful wildlife garden, as different plants were pointed out. It was a lovely, friendly group (seven of us) - some who knew a lot about plants, some who knew very little (us), but everyone eager to share knowledge and to learn - there was a lot of fascinating discussion. Eve Mulholland, our leader, was very good - (see extra as she shows why Cranesbill is called Cranesbill.)

We came away realising that our garden is already good for wildlife, just because much of it is left to be wild, or managed just a little. But we now feel inspired to do more, including developing further the grassy areas that have taken the place of lawns. It was a useful and inspiring session altogether.

Afterwards we went for lunch at Lakeland (and didn’t buy a thing in the shop!)

We are now at home and it is pouring down!
