A wonderful reunion.

Four of us that were friends at college have remained friends over the years. About ten years ago we tracked down our favourite lecturer, a very eccentric man that we never forgot. We have met him twice in that time.

We found out that he is about to become 90 years old (we were his first students although we didn't know that at the time) so wanted to see him again.  He and his wife kindly invited us for a meal at their house so Wednesday was the day.

My friend and ex flatmate G couldn't make it but D and R came and we all travelled from different parts of the country. Mr H was in good spirits and as dapper as ever. We gave him a rose, a book and a specially made card and he seemed very touched by us going there.

His house was huge and like a museum, it was filled with memorabilia, art, quirky items and thousands of books. In my collage I have tried to give a flavour of it although haven't put a photo of the man himself as it didn't seem appropriate.

Particularly interesting was the fact that when they were redecorating they found a drawing of Hitler on the wall which was drawn by one of the evacuees that stayed there.  The doll's pram is from the 1950s - they had a couple of rooms filled with toys!

After we had had more tea and cakes we left. It was wonderful to meet up with everyone again and also to have a guided tour of such a fascinating house.

R went back to Northamptonshire and D stayed with me as he lives in Lincolnshire so it was too far to travel both ways in one day.
