Joan’s blips

Charlotte Chapel

Despite the wet conditions I decided I would drive off the busy road today to see what I thought was just a small chapel on a small patch of land. I was surprised to discover it was only one of a few event venues on 4.5 acres surrounded by rainforest. The chapel looks very small … see extra … but actually seats 140.

Note the bell tower. That turned out to be an unexpected and interesting story. The 260 kg bell is the oldest ringing bell in Australia. The present owners of the venue sourced it from Somerset in the United Kingdom.  It was cast in 1550. I would like to find out why they went to so much trouble and I imagine expense for that bell. More research to be done.
