According to my close friend Prof. Google, the name Ythan may be derived from a Brittonic source, cognate with Old Welsh eith meaning "gorse" (Welsh eithin) or else, from an early Iectona meaning "talkative one" (Welsh iaith; c.f. River Ithon).
