That Will Do!

A Morning of Illusions

We had such fun with the Flumlet today. The plan, which he endorsed wholeheartedly, was to visit the Camera Obscura. One of his friends had been recently and described the attractions so vividly that the Flumlet couldn't wait to see for himself. So we caught the bus and joined a mass of humanity in a tidal surge up the Lawnmarket towards - but less far than - the castle.

Please understand that there is much, much more than the camera obscura itself; there are six floors of illusions of various types - from plasma globes to kaleidoscopic effects (main photo), distortions of different kinds. Not to be missed, the mirror maze (totally disorientating) and the Vortex Tunnel (dizzyingly terrifying) which challenged our perception of reality.

As we left, a short distance down the road an interesting black box was being opened, I spotted two eyes inside and from the box emerged a Very Large Owl. This was not a Fringe performance but a demonstration by Falconry Borders of two of their birds. For a modest fee the Flumlet was allowed to hold Guinevere, the European Eagle Owl (who, it seems, 'weighs a ton') while little tiny Einstein awaited attention. (extra photo of a delighted Flumlet).

We then battled our way against the flow of determined festivity, down to the National Library for a snack in the café before the bus home.

The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing with the usual pastimes of lunch,  glueing, games of Crazy Chefs and the like, before we all trooped out to collect B from work and take him home, all the while the Flumlet regaled his Daddy of all his exciting experience

And that concludes our Holiday Cover for him. What fun we have had.
