The tunnel is part of the building that functioned as the stables of the military camp in the city centre.  The mural is thus an artistic monument to the importance and versatility of the horse but the tunnel is seen as a symbol for the function of Breda as a military, political, and economic link between the southern and northern parts of the country.  So much symbolism in such a tiny place!

AW and I cycled to the city centre so that I could take these photographs.  Before that, though, a brief detour to the bicycle shop to get a new valve for my rear tyre as it had been performing suspiciously for quite a while and could no longer be trusted for longer distances.  The ride to town was graced with wonderful weather -- sunny but breezy.  After the photoshoot, we walked our bikes to the city centre and passed by AW's homeopathic shop before sitting down to half a high tea of delicious lemon cake and refreshments.  We then cycled further through the centre to the other side of the town and used a different route to return home.

Supermarket errands will be done tomorrow and we just had a simple dinner, followed by a quiet evening.  No early bed, though, as the Dutch are playing football in the wee hours.  At 02.00, I cooked a fresh pot of rice and polished off the leftovers.  Thankful for a sunny day together!
