Buckingham St, Arrowtown

An amble down this historic street provides an insight into life in gold rush times.  At this time of the year there is an attractive backdrop of snow-covered mountains.

During the height of the gold rush, 1862 - 1865, this street was lined with blacksmiths, butchers, saddleries, banks and hotels.  Many of these old buildings remain and form the main heritage area of Arrowtown.

Main photo is Buckingham St.

In extras, the post office (still used as one), the pharmacy (formerly a general store) and restored miners' cottages.

Also in extras, a view of the township from Tobins Track.
