Everyday I Write The Book

A walk in the woods

I remember the day as a child when I understood the hitherto bizarre phrase "can't see the wood for the trees". But it is true. When you're deep in the detail the hardest thing to do is to find a way of seeing the big picture.

Options are:

- Have a friend in an aeroplane on the end of a radio link
- Detailed satellite imagery delivered to your iPad
- Climb the tallest tree
- Have an out of body experience
- Study the maps before you go and navigate your way through
- Chill out, say "what the f-" and just enjoy the birdsong

In these particular local woods there is an old cemetery used for Indian troops killed in the great war. The bodies have long since been moved. But the funny little cemetery still remains. From here at least you can see the woods.
