Trojan Women

Had a good sleep and a lie in so feeling much more ready to plunge into the next phase of festival going when S arrives today.
Got on with all the cleaning and bed making whilst in my PJs then had my shower and headed down to meet MR for our annual governor meeting. Beautiful warm sunny day and it was a lovely walk.
Couldn’t get in to the cafe we’d arranged to meet in, or the nearest alternative, but found another and had a good chat before he headed off to a performance and I caught the bus home. Sitting upstairs gave me a good view of the heaving Royal Mile…feels like we’re back to pre-Covid numbers of visitors again and so much better to be buzzing than that awful eerie quiet around the city.
Some final cleaning and then catch up on admin and email in the afternoon before making some chicken, artichoke and olive paella ready for when S arrived. As I went to check on it in the oven I found water coming down the cupboards and into the oven….took some searching but eventually tracked it down to one of the moisture absorption bags that had sprung a leak. What a mess (it’s not pure water but has some sort of chemical in so leaves a sticky residue when it dries) and I had to clean the cupboard fronts several times more to get rid of it!
Anyway, off to the theatre to see a Korean interpretation of the tragedy of the Trojan Women awaiting their fate after the sack of Troy. Whilst it was long we both enjoyed it…powerfully staged, choreographed and sung despite being so unfamiliar to us and in such a different form to western forms of theatre/opera. The despair of the women and the depth of their emotion throughout was amazing and the way the chorus sang and moved in absolute unison (including the power of their stillness in various poses) was really powerful. Great projections of water and fire throughout too.
Home for a cup of tea and some chocolate before an early night.
