Dedication to conservation

Cumbria Wildlife Trust had an urgent callout this morning for volunteers to rake up the cuttings from a recently mown verge along a track at Orton.  If not taken away, or at least moved to the banks, the old vegetation would just rot down and eventually raise the fertility of the area, which is not wanted.  New meadow plants will be plug-planted later this week, hopefully creating a more diverse and colourful display next year.
(I only lasted an hour or so - it was very, very wet work!)
