Fair Weather Cloud

Clouds don't deserve a negative press. They can be so beautiful to look at and offer us shade from the sun. Today it stayed dry all day and, after my sleepy day yesterday, I've stayed awake all day. Avoiding sitting down too often helps, of course. So it's been a pretty productive day with domestic activities - and just a little gardening in the cool of the evening. It wasn't exactly the area I'd planned to work in, but every little in every corner of this garden is a bonus!

We both picked lots more Royal Gala apples from our tree. The bigger, redder ones that are appearing now are ripe enough to taste sweet enough to eat straight off the branch, though we're still stewing a lot of the smaller, sharper flavoured ones with a little sugar - some for crumbles and some to freeze. It's a shame so many have been nibbled in situ and are rotting on the branches. Don't remember that problem last year.

A fair few Conference pears are growing on the much smaller tree, but they're not ripe enough to pick yet. Hope they don't get eaten before their time; I love pears. It'll be a few more weeks' wait for the plums on the tree at the front of the house.
