Grayson Perry at the Royal Academy

I must confess I had no great expectation visiting this exhibition today.
.
Yes I know he is immensely popular and entertaining on the telly especially when he flounces around in his dresses and he has introduced art to a great swathe of the public, which is admirable.

So I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked this show.  He is probably a better satirist than an artist ( see extra) but there is no denying his immense talent and energy.

Grayson is the most famous working artist in Britain today yet he has never had a retrospective until now.

Critics are divided. The Scotsman says it's the best solo show at the Royal Academy since Paolozzi 40 years ago while the Guardian are somewhat scathing.
The sheer scale and variety of it from huge tapestries to ceramics and sculpture make it a show stopper- the title of the exhibition  “Smash Hits” reflects this populist artists style and work.
