days I'll remember

Chincoteague to Charlottesville

A beautiful day for a drive, first south to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge / Tunnel then north-west past Richmond to Charlottesville and the campus of the University of Virginia. The place has a very nice vibe, with a mix of Colonial neo-classical university buildings, lawns and restaurants and cafes. We didn't get as far as the old downtown area, but found a very agreeable noisy bar for beer and nachos. Made with very agreeable pork and entirely disagreeable 'cheese' from a tube. Yuk. Still, the waitresses were agreeable.

A brief period of excitement was had as we watched three enormous locomotives switch wagons on the overbridge. KCS and Buckingham Branch locos, in case that means anythings to you.
