Effervescent

A bit of a dashing about day. Started by walking down to town meet DH for nearly the last of my annual governor chats. Just as I set off the drizzle started and before I knew it the rain was tipping down so I had to jump on a bus to avoid being soaked. That meant I arrived in town too early so thought I’d look round the gallery before we met but it was closed til 10, as were some of the nearby shops, so ended up sitting and gently steaming in the Gleneagles lobby.
We had a good chat once we met then he had to dash off and I had a successful browse in Harvey Nicks before walking home. It had become a warm sunny day by then, although still with gusty breezes. Spent a lot of time on hold trying to speak to social care people and the discharge team, then to try and talk to Dr on P’s ward. Eventually got through and had a good update…he said that P was lucid this morning (but that it might come and go a bit for a while) and the infection was pretty much gone.
Had a video call with another prospective governor and then did some emails and admin catch up but rather sluggishly, before walking back to town again to meet RR to talk fundraising. Good chat that was fairly short so I was able to have a micro meet up afterwards with R where we had a laughter filled chat about Barbie, Gaelic singing, Switzerland, age gaps and dates,
Another speedy dash to the Usher Hall for Oslo Philarmonic conducted by the incredibly expressive and charismatic young Klaus Mäkelä. First half had the amazing Yuja Wang playing Ravel. The first piece, for left hand only, was very unusual and expressive, with her at times hanging onto the side of the piano with her right hand as she swung around to manage the high notes with her left. The second piece (concerto in G) was fabulous….huge changes in dynamics and it was great to be so close to see the lightness and agility with which she played.
After the interval and with many extra players having been added to the orchestra we had the Shostakovich Symphony No 5. What a powerhouse! Mäkelä danced and swooned his way through it and drew an incredible performance out from the orchestra. I wish I’d been in the choir seats for this half (although they weren’t on sale at the start of the booking period annoyingly) to be able to see the whole scene but the sound was wonderful and I enjoyed being close to the two harpists especially when one had to frantically change a broken string before their next part started!
Last dash home…tired!
