Out and About

Bigland Barrows

If you've ever walked on Bigland you'll know that the public footpaths on the Ordnance Survey map, bear little relation to what's on the ground. Even Alfred Wainwright writing in 1973 warns readers that the footpaths advertised do not exist in the ground. There are a couple of places where the map is very wrong, one is an advertised 4 way footpath junction.  We were very excited  today to find this footpath sign at, we guessed where the junction on the map was because we'd not found it before.  On the ground , despite the sign , it was possible to go straight on or left.(Yes, I know its pointing right!) Luckily, we wanted to go left. It was raining, we got wet.
