Kilmarnock and Troon Railway Sleepers

Stone sleepers used on the Kilmarnock Troon Railway which opened in 1812 and which are now part of a wall.

The are article in the Scots Magazine in January 1812:
 "[The rails] are not laid on sleepers of wood; but on solid blocks of stone, from 9 to 12 inches in thickness, and generally more than a foot square (in base and surface)."
