Autumn already?

A morning walk round Old Sulehay NR had aspects of both summer and autumn. The woodland ride was full of butterflies (despite the rather overcast and breezy conditions) including a fleeting glimpse of the rare Valezina form of Silver-washed Fritillary, but in the quarry I found good numbers of waxcaps, stimulated by the recent rain. This is the rare Limestone Waxcap which has featured several times over the years - I never fail to be delighted to see it
