Bridge on the Moor

This substantial granite bridge on Dartmoor spans the long disused Plymouth to Princetown railway. It does not carry a road, a footpath or an obvious farm track.  It may have been used as a crossing by quarrymen but its main purpose seems to have been to allow animals to move safely from one part of the moor to another. The dark sky overhead was a sign of things to come. Twenty minutes later there was a torrential downpour and despite sheltering under the side of a nearby tour I was still soaking wet by the end of my walk.
