Return to the stones…

Our first day on Lewis/Harris was so special.  We started with lunch at Lewis Castle in Stornoway and the on to Calanais standing stones.  Such an incredible experience to see these magnificent stones again after 18 years!  I made dozens and dozens of photographs but I chose one for the main image and posted a collage of some others In the extras.  In my opinion, it’s the most exquisite set of stones anywhere in the world. Each is totally unique and made of the beautiful gneiss stones which have such a variation of patterns and color.  Walking amongst these giants of prehistory was the highlight of my trip.  Gift#236: touching the ancient past.
