First Wall

I am finally testing negative for Covid so back on the Blip trail once more.

A short visit to the coastal path at Kinghorn this afternoon revealed this butterfly.  It is called a wall, or wall brown, Lasiommata megera.

They have been spreading steadily northwards, with the first one being reported in Fife in 2019.  Sightings have steadily increased since then but they have eluded me until today.  According to iRecord, there have been a few records from this section of coast during the last couple of years.

In total, there are 164 records for Fife, 66 of them in 2023.
